A native of Birmingham, Ala., Timothy Alexander is a devout Christian, motivational speaker and life coach. As a senior at E.B. Erwin High School in 2006, Timothy was one of the state's top-ranked football players. However, he was involved in a life-changing car accident that fall, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. From that point on, Timothy was left to find his purpose in life while paralyzed. Timothy graduated from Erwin in 2007 and attended Wallace State Community College. After graduating from Wallace State, he enrolled at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he double majored in Criminal Justice and Communication Management. While at UAB, Timothy earned a football scholarship with the Blazers despite being a paraplegic. He was runner-up for the Mr. UAB Award, a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and president of the UAB Gang Green student spirit club. When UAB terminated its football, bowling and rifle programs on Dec. 2, 2014, Timothy led a grassroots movement to protest the decision. After receiving more than 50 city and county proclamations supporting the reinstatement of the three teams, he joined with UAB boosters and Birmingham city leaders to help raise more than $40 million in one year as the university restored the programs. Timothy graduated from UAB with a Master's degree in Communication Management. His proudest moment came on July 18, 2016 when he was able to stand up on his own for the first time since being paralyzed. In January 2017, Timothy received an Emmy Award for his work on a television special about the UAB football saga. Timothy is also a minister, keynote speaker and graduate of the John C. Maxwell Certification Program. See less
