Using unprecedented tactics he was able to engage U.S. Navy and Naval Air Corps. troops for nearly forty days. Letters From Iwo Jima is a book comprised of letters from Kuribayashi to his family. These missives, often containing doodles and sentiment insights, gave voice and humanity to the Japanese troops on the island.
