Sylvester Carstarphen is a senior database administrator for a CRM company where he is heavily involved in the performance monitoring and tuning of the company's very large databases. Sylvester started his database administration career almost 6 years ago at a Fortune 500 financial corporation where he rapidly progressed from DBA I, to DBA II, SR DBA, and finally working manager of database support in 4 years. His role consisted of managing six SQL Server DBAs and an environment of 100+ SQL Servers with 150+ application databases. In search of opportunities to increase his performance tuning skills, Sylvester took on a new role with the CRM company to help solve their major performance issues. Sylvester possesses a bachelor's degree in computer science from Wofford College and a master's degree in applied computer science with a concentration in software development from Columbus State University.
