Sophie Gilliat-Ray is a Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies and Director of the Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK, at Cardiff University. She has been actively involved in fieldwork research for nearly two decades, having done projects on chaplaincy in prisons and hospitals, and on various aspects of Islam in Britain.
