Born in Nagasaki, Japan, Shungiku Uchida (the pen name of Shigeko Uchida) is a prolific writer, manga-ka, singer, and actress whose work is widely adapted into film and television. She won a Japanese literary prize for two bestsellers: the prose, semi-autobiographical Fatherfucker , which details the abuse she suffered as a child, and a manga series, We Are Reproducing , about pregnancy and single motherhood.
