Scott C. Davis is a freelance writer based in Seattle. In 2000 he traveled to Syria and participated in the brief, inspiring "Damascus Spring." He has visited Syria several times a year since then. During the Iraq war he traveled widely and recorded the comments of Syrians for broadcast on American radio. Light in the Palace picks up the story and the characters from his earlier book, The Road from Damascus, and continues his adventures from 2000 to present. In addition to the author's narration of his travel experiences and his research into Syrian civil society, Light in the Palace includes "dialogues" that the author has created in collaboration with thirty Syrians from different walks of life. Each dialogue is a composition based on interviews, phone calls, letters, and emails that took place over several years' time. See less
