Sarojini Naidu
Sarojini Naidu (1879-1949) was an Indian activist and politician, who is notable for being the first Governor of United Provinces after India became independent. In her lifetime she was also a successful poet, and her leader and friend Mahatma Gandhi dubbed her the 'Nightingale of India'. While her poem 'In the Bazaars of Hyderabad' is perhaps her most famous, it is her first published collection, The Golden Threshold, which made her name as a poet of beautiful lyrical works.
