RUTH BREDLIE HANSON, is the project director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Pew Charitable Trusts national grant program Strengthening Hospital Nursing: A Program to Improve Patient Care at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota. Prior to becoming project director in 1989, she was manager of nursing education at MeritCare Hospital. She has also served as nursing education curriculum coordinator and instructor of nursing at the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, Fargo, North Dakota. Ms. Hanson, who has been employed full-time in the health care field for 24 years, has researched, published, and made presentations on subjects including work restructuring, performance review systems, case management, and organizational change. In addition, she currently serves as a standing health care networking contact for The Advisory Board, Washington, D.C. Ms. Hanson holds a bachelor of science in Nursing from the Univeristy of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and a master of science in education from North Dakota State University, Fargo. BETTY SAYERS, is a facilitator for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundationand Pew Charitable Trusts national grant program Strenthening Hospital Nursing: A Program to Improve Patient Care at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota. As part of her responsibilities Ms. Sayers writes, edits, and publishes an organizationwide newsletter that highlights innovative groups and individuals as well as ideas promoting integration, customer service, and efficiency. In addition, she has conducted seminars on human resource development topics. Ms. Sayers created the MeritCare Culture Change Kits, has recently published an article in the AORN Journal and is aregular contributor to The Light Journey, a holistic care publication. She holds a bachelor's degree in home economics/vocational education and a master's degree in human development and the family from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. See less
