Russell A. Hakes is an Emeritus Professor of Law at Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware. He was an Associate Professor of law at Widener University School of Law from 1988-2003 and a Professor of Law from 2012-2013. He taught Secured Transactions, Payment Systems, Sales & Leases, Commercial Law, Contracts, and Property. From 2005-2008 he served as Vice Dean of the Delaware Campus of Widener University School of Law. Prior to teaching he practiced law with Adams, Duque & Hazeltine, Los Angeles, California, from 1978-1988 and was a partner with the fi rm from 1985-1988. His practice included commercial law, real estate finance, general real estate law, and corporate finance. He has published articles on secured transactions topics: A Quest for Justice in the Conversion of Security Interests, 82 KY. L.J. 837 (1994); According PurchaseMoney Status Proper Priority, 72 OR. L. REV. 323 (1993); and was a member of the subcommittee that prepared the Report Regarding Legal Opinions in Personal Property Secured Transactions, for the Uniform Commercial Code Committee, Business Law Section, State Bar of California. That report was reprinted in 44 BUS. LAW. 791 (1989). He has been involved in various commercial law subcommittees of the Uniform Commercial Code Committee of the Section of Business Law of the American Bar Association and served as an editor of the annual Uniform Commercial Code Survey from 2002-2013. He was been a member of the Uniform Commercial Code Committee of the Commercial Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association from 1989-2013. He served on the Uniform Commercial Code Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California from 1985-1988. He has served as a panelist in a variety of continuing legal education panels involving commercial law and real estate subjects.
