Ruhama Veltfort
Ruhama Veltfort was raised in Palo Alto, California. She graduated from Barnard College in new York City with a bachelor's degree in anthropology and oriental studies, and returned to California in 1967. She has lived in San Francisco ever since. Ruhama Veltfort was raised in Palo Alto, California. She graduated from Barnard College in new York City with a bachelor's degree in anthropology and oriental studies, and returned to California in 1967. She has lived in San Francisco ever since. She has been a student of Sufism and mediation for over thirty years. Her poems and stories have appeared in Whispering Campaign, The Antrim Review, The Noe Valley Voice and Sound Journal. Her first novel, The Promised Land, was published initially by Milkweed Editions in 1998 to excellent reviews. It has since been reissued in a Kindle edition (2011) and a paperback (June 2012). A memoir, The Things We Do For Love: Stories of My Life was published in 2010 by Wordrunner Press. Ruhama is also the author of two poetry chapbooks, Whispers of a Dreamer (Hollow Reed Press, 1983) and Miles on the Bridge (Wordrunner Chapbooks, 1997).
