Es autora de los volumenes de cuentos: Optimistas (2006), Amores que matan (1996) y de los libros de ensayos Mantis: sentido y verdad en la cultura literaria posmoderna (2010) y America sin americanismos (1997). Es licenciada en Lengua y literaturas hispanicas por la UNAM y doctora en Literatura Comparada por la Universidad de California, Los Angeles. Ha sido subdirectora de La Jornada Semanal y directora de literatura de la UNAM. Su obra ha merecido varias distinciones: el reconocimiento de la American Association of University Women (AAUW), el Premio Universidad Nacional para Jovenes Academicos en el area de creacion y el Reconocimiento Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz por laUNAM. Parte de su obra ha sido traducida al ingles, italiano, frances, holandes y esloveno, y sus cuentos aparecen en antologias publicadas en distintos paises.
