His books specialize in blending fact and speculation in dramatic and engaging stories, driven by strong characters and intriguing, topical philosophical themes. In addition to near future science fiction exploring contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence (Frankensteel), genetic engineering (The Geneh War) and cyborg technology (Time Enough for Killing), his books include time travel (The Time Surgeons), alternative history (The Passion of Judas) and a collection of short stories (Past, Present, Future).
