Robert Sasse is a writer and poet who lives in New Mexico. Raised on a ranch in Montana, by age 20 he was a professional rodeo clown and bullfighter, an auctioneer and managed the family ranch. In February 1966, he was drafted and volunteered for the Marine Corps. After bootcamp, he was sent to Vietnam. When he wounded, a medivac brought him back to the United States a year later, and he was released from the Marines in 1968. He then began a difficult odyssey through alcoholism and dysfunction that took him to Alaska; Alberta, Canada; back to Montana; and eventually Omaha, Nebraska. It was there at the age of 40 that he found sobriety and began receiving help for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Writing became part of his therapy for battling the ghosts of war. Today, Robert and his wife Glenda live in southwestern New Mexico where they walk the good red road. Sasse was awarded a first place medal from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs National Creative Arts Festival for his 2012 poetry collection called Ghost Warrior. His poetry and short stories have been published by VietnamVeterans.com, the Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial, and several other places online and in print. Moon of Hardship is his first novel. See less
