Three generations of author Richard Sullivan's family came from Buffalo's Irish First Ward. They include among others, a police detective, a city alderman, a millionaire, and a serial murderer. The First Ward series follows the lives of these actual living characters for a hundred years, how they influenced one another, and the impact that the rowdy, lawless, heavily polluted and economically depressed First Ward had on their lives and decisions. He is proud of completing his adventure bucket list by age 20, which culminated in a three month bare bones hitchhiking adventure in Europe which included a week-long confinement in a hospital in communist Poland. His writing and photography assignments began at age 15 with his high school newspaper and from there culminated in 55 assignments for the Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine and 22 assignments for Los Angeles Magazine as well as a show of his fine art photography at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Sullivan's other passions include health and fitness as a lifestyle and Hawaii as a travel destination, with published books on these subjects.
