Richard Southern

Southern, after a career in education, returned to the University of Southern California, where he had earned a B.A. and an M.L.A. in history, to pursue a master's in gerontology. He was awarded a fellowship by the National Institute on Aging and served as national president (student section) of the Gerontological Society. During this period, he began studies that culminated in a Ph.D. from Claremont University, focusing on the impact of conservative evangelical Christians on public policy.
