Richard Cassidy studied history as an undergraduate at St Catherine's College, Oxford, in the 1960s. After retirement from a career in the gas industry, he returned to history, with an MA and PhD in medieval history at King's College, London. His PhD thesis 'The 1259 Pipe Roll' is the basis for an edition of that roll to be published by the Pipe Roll Society.
