The late Rex Barney became a legend as part of the most exciting era of the Brooklyn Dodgers""1943 to 1951""when Jackie Robinson arrived and Leo Durocher switched to the New York Giants. When his pitching career ended, Barney went into sports broadcasting and became the public-address announcer for the Orioles, first at Memorial Stadium and then at Orioles Park at Camden Yards. When his pitching career ended, Barney went into sports broadcasting and became the public-address announcer for the Orioles, first at Memorial Stadium and then at Orioles Park at Camden Yards. He also did radio work for WBAL in Baltimore. In 1993 he received the Eddie Rommel Award from the Maryland Professional Baseball Players Association and was presented with an original seat from Ebbets Field in ceremonies in Brooklyn, New York.
