Peter Jordan, born 1949 in Hermagor, Carinthia, Austria. Educated in geography and ethnology at the University of Vienna, habilitation at the University of Klagenfurt. In 1989 appointed Head of the Department of Geography at the Austrian Institute of East and Southeast European Studies, Vienna; editor-in-chief of the Atlas of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. In 2002 appointed Director of the Institute.
