Peter Hujar

Peter Hujar was born in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1934, and lived and worked in New York City's East Village from the age of 16 until his death in 1987. A central figure in the downtown cultural scene in the 1970s and early 80s, Hujar influenced many of today's most celebrated photographers. Nan Goldin has said that his work, 'like that of so few photographers, can't be forgotten and becomes even deeper and more compelling over time.'
