Paul Dietzel

Paul Dietzel became head coach of the LSU Tigers in 1955. While there he pioneered the three-team method of relieving players. This innovation led to a perfect season in 1959 and victory in the Sugar Bowl. That same year Dietzel was named National Coach of the Year. After leaving LSU, Dietzel went on to coach at the U.S. Military Academy and the University of South Carolina. He retired from coaching in 1975 and has since worked as an Athletic Director, avid watercolor painter, and writer.
