Pat Kelly is a physicist born in Dublin, Ireland. He has worked as a research group director in Cork, where he co-founded two spin-out companies and was CTO of one until its trade sale. More recently he has worked in technology transfer at an Irish university and as deputy director of the commercial company of a major Australian University. He is currently research and development director with an Irish multinational company. He developed contacts in Berlin and the former East Germany (DDR) almost by accident, as a graduate student, and has travelled the cities and by-roads of the former DDR lands extensively, staying with ordinary people who lived through the DDR experience. DDR�ben (Over There), is his first travel book, an often humorous record of travel, conversations and experiences over 20 years in the former East Germany, which captures the ghost of the former DDR, still perceptibly alive in one of Europe's few modern states to become extinct.
