Dr. Larsen practiced nursing from 1969 until she retired in 2013. Her last 28 years of practice were as a faculty member and administrator in schools of nursing that offered BSN and MS degrees. Her clinical and educational expertise was chronic illness and the psychosocial concepts that are associated with patients and caregivers with chronic conditions. To that end, Dr. Larsen published her own personal account of chronic illness as she and her late husband battled cancer. Many of those experiences are included within this text. Dr. Larsen maintained certification as a rehabilitation registered nurse (CCRN) from 1986-2011. Dr. Larsen has been associated with this text, first as the author of the rehabilitation chapter, since 1995. She was asked by Ilene Lubkin to co-edit the text beginning with the 4th edition. With Ms. Lubkin's death in 2005, she became the sole editor with the 6th edition. Dr. Larsen retired as Professor Emeritus from the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY, in 2013. See less
