During the mid-1960s he worked as lead vocalist in London clubs with his own group, the Frays, and later the Alexis Korner Quartet. He helped popularize American soul-based R&B and gospel music in Great Britain. He currently spends his time researching and preserving music on indie labels, writing articles for various music magazines and producing CD collections for a number of reissue record labels both in the U.S. and in England.
