Oliver Byar Bowh Si was born and brought up in a small Lisu village in Myitkyina (Burma). He was educated at a local high school and university in Myitkyina. He studied M.Div at Myanmar Institute of Theology (Insein), and worked as a lecturer in Philosophy and Ethics at Lisu Theological Seminary of Myanmar (Pyin Oo Lwin) before he was offered a full Chevening scholarship to study Development Studies at LSE in 2003 where he was introduced to the idea of Civil Society by Professor Mary Kaldor. Oliver Byar Bowh Si was born and brought up in a small Lisu village in Myitkyina (Burma). He was educated at a local high school and university in Myitkyina. He studied M.Div at Myanmar Institute of Theology (Insein), and worked as a lecturer in Philosophy and Ethics at Lisu Theological Seminary of Myanmar (Pyin Oo Lwin) before he was offered a full Chevening scholarship to study Development Studies at LSE in 2003 where he was introduced to the idea of Civil Society by Professor Mary Kaldor. He continued his studies in Religion and Politics at Oxford University in 2004 and Yale University in 2009.
