Zoologist Nola Lee Kelsey began writing satires and travel guidebooks (e.g. 700 Places to Volunteer Before You Die) plus working as a columnist over a decade ago. Her specialty was a focus on global volunteer travel programs with an eye to educating people about how they could help global animal rescues, sanctuaries and research projects which desperately needed more hands on deck.
