Noël Valis is professor of Spanish at Yale University. She is the author of nineteen books, including The Decadent Vision in Leopoldo Alas, The Novels of Jacinto Octavio Picón, The Culture of Cursilería: Bad Taste, Kitsch, and Class in Modern Spain and Reading the Nineteenth-Century Spanish Novel.
