Nikolai Burlakoff is a writer whose long-standing interest in cultural studies and cooking finds expression in this work devoted to a central dish of Kalmyk life-dzhomba, Kalmyk tea. His most recent book, The World of Russian Borsch (2013), was well-received by readers, culinary historians, and cookbook authors. An article, based on that work, is scheduled to be published by Oxford University Press, as part of a symposium collection. Previously, he has made contributions to the grassroots cookbook, Indy Cooks International, created and published by the Nationalities Council of Indiana, and, Foods of the Hudson: A Seasonal Sampling of the Region's Bounty, by Peter G. Rose. The author's previous foray into Kalmyk literary culture was marked by the publication of A Kalmyk Sampler: Mongol Poetry and Mythic Tale (2012).
