Born in Milwaukee in 1923, Max Gendelman was left shell-shocked by his experiences in the Second World War. Avoiding the painful memories, he poured his energies into running the successful business he founded and headed, the Century Hardware Corporation; taking care of his family; and nurturing his lifelong friendship with Karl Kirschner.
