At the age of 17 Mathew Gnagy entered the tailoring trade as an apprentice in a suit shop. His interest in historical clothing led him to study tailoring throughout the ages. By the age of 25 he had designed stage productions, numerous individual costumes for private clients and started his own costume business. In 2007, he moved to New York City and started working in the professional costume industry as well as fashion and quickly found his way to Broadway, TV and fashion runways. His first title: Knitting Off the Axis, was released in 2011 by Interweave press. The Modern Maker is his second book. He currently resides in New York City. He works regularly as a tailor for both Screen and Stage and teaches fashion at Parsons University of Fashion Design. See less
