Mary K. Dornhoffer holds a degree in chemistry and a minor in English, both of which contributed toward her career as a scientific writer. Mary originally worked as a chemist in a research laboratory, but her love of the English language brought her out of the lab and into the world of writing. She has worked as a scientific writer for the past 17 years. In addition to authoring technical manuals, scientific proposals, and children's books for Compass Point, she is a published poet and is working on several stories for children. She enjoys writing children's nonfiction, particularly on scientific topics, and takes great satisfaction in making challenging subjects interesting for young readers. She has a home out in the country near Little Rock, Arkansas, where she resides with her husband, John, her two boys, Tommy and Jimmy, a Golden Retriever, two cats, and a multitude of wildlife.
