Mary Jane Salyers, a naive of East Tennessee, earned a BA degree from Carson Newman University with a major in English and a minor in history. After teaching English and social studies in secondary schools for fifteen years, she earned a masters from Indiana University. She completed her 34 years of teaching as a college instructor.
