Mary B. Hale is Assistant Director of Scholarly and Undergraduate Programs at the Newberry Library in Chicago. She holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she wrote a dissertation titled "Democratic Conventions: The Form of Politics in the Gilded Age."
