His previous academic appointments include the Kim T. Adamson Chair of Insurgency and Terrorism at the US Marine Corps University and fellowships at the Joint Special Operations University and Texas A&M University. The author of seven previous books on history, leadership, and international development, he has also written articles for the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and many other publications.
