Mark C Baker is an enthusiastic and accomplished photographer, who has spent a lot of time capturing images of the Kennet and Avon Canal, that runs through Newbury in Berkshire, where he lives. He can often be seen trudging the towpath with a variety of photographic equipment. He volunteers regularly with the Canal and River Trust (CRT), being one of the first Towpath Taskforce volunteers in the local area. As well as participating in the normal range of volunteer tasks, he has taken a particular interest in anti-litter activities and the national campaign to encourage people, that want to feed ducks and swans, to use healthier alternatives to bread. As a member of the Kennet and Avon Canal Environmental Champions Group, Mark devised the concept of insect youth hostels (miniaturised versions of bug hotels). He also developed an in-house survey to help inform staff and volunteers about problems with plastic waste and explore how CRT can play its part in tackling this serious environmental issue. His photographs have been used in various CRT publications and documents and on numerous information boards. By the same author: "Living in a digital world: Demystifying technology" See less
