Maria Malone is an author with a love of old-style department stores. A former award-winning print journalist, she has worked in television and is the producer the DVD bonus feature for Season 2 of the hit TV series, Mr Selfridge. A huge fan of the show, she became captivated by the enduring love between Harry and Rose Selfridge and got to thinking about how their paths might have crossed in Chicago before they came to London to open Selfridges, on Oxford Street. Their story is the inspiration for her debut novel, When Harry Met Rose: Mr Selfridge and the Search for Love. Maria has written several non-fiction books, including Selfish Little Cow, The Frog Princess, The Tube Exposed and Popstars. She is a ghostwriter of celebrity autobiographies. Maria comes from the seaside town of Whitley Bay, a few miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, birthplace of the world's first department store, Bainbridge's.
