In this, her first book collaboration, Lesley Layton, infuses her years of research and understanding of emotional intelligence and parenting with her love of art in general and, in particular, illustration. A picture says a thousand words - this is true for Lesley's creations. Her images convey complex messages for others to easily and instantly understand. Graduating from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science degree and, subsequently, from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College summa cum laude, Lesley is a Doctor of Chiropractic, having worked in private practice for 17 years, and serving on the British Columbia Board of Chiropractic Examiners for three years. Retiring in 2007 to attend to her youngest son's multiple medical needs who has Down Syndrome and twice survived acute leukemia, she continues to contribute to the bookkeeping aspect of her husband's dental practice. In addition, Lesley has been a strong advocate for her son, Samuel, in the Vancouver Island Board of Education, community, and health care systems to ensure inclusion and support for children and adults with Down Syndrome and other special needs.
