Kelsey Freeman is a writer and educator most passionate about immigration policy, indigenous rights, social justice, and public policy. Her work focuses on the effects that policies have on specific communities, particularly migrant and Indigenous groups. Kelsey graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College. After graduation, she received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English and study migration in central Mexico. While volunteering at a local migrant shelter, and in the course of her time in Mexico, she conducted numerous in-depth interviews with migrants from across Central America and Mexico which formed the backbone of her book, No Option But North. Kelsey also talked with numerous leaders, teachers and everyday citizens and gained their diverse perspectives about the realities of the migratory cycle. Kelsey currently lives in Bend, Oregon, where she runs a college-readiness program for Native American high school students at Central Oregon Community College. See less
