Joyce Carol Oates is a bit compulsive.

She is empathetic, she feels what others feel and is compassionate towards them. She is intermittent as well: she has a hard time sticking with difficult tasks for a long period of time. But, Joyce Carol Oates is also laid-back: she appreciates a relaxed pace in life.

More than most people, her choices are driven by a desire for self-expression.
