Working as a psychiatrist for over thirty years, he also founded and directed The Foundation Schools in the suburban Washington, DC, area. As an author, Meeks writes to entertain and to enlighten. His passion for education and his admiration for the students who struggle after it inspired his third novel, Footsore on Wisdom Road. Over the years, Meeks has worked directly with many children similar to the characters in this book; and his experiences as the director of three schools just like the book's Ellicott Center provided the necessary realism for his fictional high school for emotionally troubled young people.
