John M. Klofas (Ph.D., SUNY Albany) is Professor of Criminal Justice, Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice, and Director at the Center for Public Safety Initiatives at Rochester Institute of Technology. Dr. Klofas has worked in adult and juvenile probation in Massachusetts and served as a caseworker in the state's maximum-security penitentiary and as Director of Classification for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. An active member of several professional CJ organizations, he reviews for a variety of journals and consults with national agencies on crime research and policy. Dr. Klofas is a founding trustee of Metropolitan Forum, a citizens group interested in analyses and solutions to community problems. His research focuses on criminal justice management, crime policy, prison and jail issues (including crowding), and metropolitan patterns of crime and justice. In partnership with Don Pryor of the Center for Governmental Research, Dr. Klofas received support from the National Institute of Justice for a project involving working with the local criminal justice system in strategic research efforts to reduce community violence. A 2012 grant supports evaluation of New York State's CeaseFire Violence Prevention program. See less
