John Hinman graduated from Edinboro University with a degree in education and taught middle school students for almost thirty years. He wrote his first novel, True Heroes of Gettysburg, to instill an interest in the Civil War in his students. He wrote his first novel, True Heroes of Gettysburg, to instill an interest in the Civil War in his students.
