John Colville
Colville entered the diplomatic service in 1937, at the age of twenty-two. In 1939, he made the transition to 10 Downing Street under Neville Chamberlain, then went on to become Prime Minister Winston Churchill's principal private secretary during World War II as well as Churchill's later return to office.
