Johann Buessow is Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. He specializes in the social and cultural history of the modern Middle East. He is the author of Hamidian Palestine (2011) and the co-author, with Khaled Safi, of Damascus Affairs (2013).
