Jim Suttie has a doctor of arts degree with a concentration in biomechanics from Middle Tennessee State University. Jim Suttie has a doctor of arts degree with a concentration in biomechanics from Middle Tennessee State University. Known as the teacher's teacher and teacher of the pros, he has 36 years of experience in golf instruction and is currently the golf coach for Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, Florida. Suttie has taught more than 150 PGA, LPGA, and Champions tour professionals including Chip Beck, Fred Funk, Carin Koch, Vicki Goetze-Ackerman, Steve Flesch, Silvia Cavalleri, Loren Roberts, Tom Purtzer, and Paul Azinger. On an international level, Suttie has worked with golfers on every world tour including the European Tour, Japanese Tour, and Asian Tour, and he is presently a consultant for the Dutch Federation. Upon completion of his doctorate, Suttie went on to study how the body is designed to function, incorporating his years of practical experience with his academic background to develop the best method for golfers to achieve the perfect swing. He is also credited with bringing the use of high-speed video to golf instruction. Suttie is a "Golf Magazine" Top 100 teaching professional. "Golf Digest" magazine named him the top golf teacher in Illinois in its biennial list of America's 50 Greatest Teachers for 2007-08, and ranked him within the top 20 teachers in America. He has secured a spot on the "Golf Digest" America's 50 Greatest Teachers list since it's inception in 2000. Suttie was also named the PGA of America's National Teacher of the Year in 2000, and is a three-time recipient of the Illinois PGA Teacher of the Year award. Suttie writes regularly for "Golf Magazine," "Golf Digest," and "Golf Tips."
