Jim Dougherty has lived and worked in several different locations throughout the world since 1967, including Japan and Hawaii. As a veteran of the Vietnam War, he has experienced the dangers of battle and possibility of capture by the enemy, up close and personal. Throughout his long and diverse career, he authored many articles for newspapers and magazines; as well as writing and producing numerous video documentaries and travelogues on a variety of international topics. Recipient of various awards for writing and producing, including two consecutive Thomas Jefferson statues for excellence in broadcasting, he is continuously seeking new challenges. Dougherty has been studying Asian history and cultures since childhood and deeply understands the motivation and aspirations of Asian people, especially the Japanese. From 1980 to 1986, he lived and worked in Hawaii; both on Maui and Oahu. It was there that he befriended two decorated members of the distinguished 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army. While listening to their insightful stories of pre and post war Maui, he was inspired to one day write a novel about this exciting period in Japanese-American history. After 25 years of globe-trotting and investing in a wide range of business international ventures, he has finally fulfilled that goal. Jim Dougherty's writing style reads more like a movie script than a book. He was strongly influenced by such legendary authors as James Michener and James Clavell. This is just the first in what he hopes to be an exciting trilogy on the subject of Maui, during World War Two. See less
