Jeffrey Spier
Jeffrey Spier is Senior Curator of Antiquities at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He was trained as a classical archaeologist, receiving his D.Phil. from Merton College, Oxford, in 1988. He has published widely on Greek, Roman, and Byzantine art, including catalogues of the gems and rings at the J. Jeffrey Spier is Senior Curator of Antiquities at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He was trained as a classical archaeologist, receiving his D.Phil. from Merton College, Oxford, in 1988. He has published widely on Greek, Roman, and Byzantine art, including catalogues of the gems and rings at the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, studies of Early Christian gems and Byzantine rings, and exhibition catalogues. Dr Jack Ogden is a specialist in the history of jewellery materials and techniques and an author and co-author of numerous books and articles on the subject. He has qualifications in gemmology and art law, and his Ph.D. thesis for Durham University was on jewellery from Greek, Roman and Byzantine Egypt. He served on the UK Government Treasure Valuation Committee for fourteen years and in his professional capacity has been CEO of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and Secretary General of the World Jewellery Federation (CIBJO).
