Born and raised in West Virginia, Jean Ayer graduated from Barnard College in New York City Under her married name, Jean Karnoff, and her sister's married name, Van Saun, she was a fashion illustrator for Lord and Taylor. Her work has appeared most of the great fashion magazines including Esquire, the New Yorker, and McCalls.
