Barbara H. Roberts, MD, FACC, is Director of The Women's Cardiac Center at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. She is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She spent two years at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where she was involved in the first clinical trial that demonstrated a beneficial effect of lowering cholesterol on the incidence of heart disease. She is currently a principal investigator in another NIH-sponsored trial of cholesterol-lowering therapy. Since 2002 Dr. Roberts has lectured to lay and professional audiences ? like fellow cardiologists, nurses, pharmacists, resident, interns and medical students ? on Gender-Specific Aspects of Cardiovascular Disease, Hyperlipidemia, and Nutrition and Heart Disease. She's spoken in many professional venues in the United States ? including Brown University, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, the Cleveland Clinic, and lay venues including the Junior League, Hadassah, Speaking of Women's Health, and a variety of corporations. She has also lectured abroad in countries as far-flung as Brazil, Italy, England, and Turkey. Her previously published books, which were not released or promoted as trade publications with general distribution, include "How To Keep From Breaking Your Heart: What Every Woman Needs To Know About Cardiovascular Disease", Jones & Bartlett Publishers, 2004; Second Edition, 2009; and "Beating and Treating Heart Disease: A Consumer's Guide to Cardiac Medicines", Jones & Bartlett Publishers, 2009.
