James Diehl is a long-time resident of Sussex County. As a journalist, he has written about the county's history for a number of Delaware publications and he has worked for the Daily Times in Salisbury, MD. He has also been an editor for The Sussex Post and he was the Managing Editor for The Sussex Countian. Diehl has won several awards for his writing from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association (MDDC). He has standing relationships with several historical societies in the county, the Delaware Public Archives and local museums.
