Jake Corey was born and shortly after made homeless in Ashbourne Derbyshire. He lived in the workhouse until he was about two years old. One of twelve brothers and sisters, he lost contact with them all except one of his sisters. One of twelve brothers and sisters, he lost contact with them all except one of his sisters. Having left school at fifteen uneducated, he worked in a lingerie factory with over two hundred 'well educated' women. He left the factory two years later, equally well educated. At seventeen, he joined the Army and left military service more than four decades later as a senior officer and a Director in NATO.
